What is Medio Cudeyo?
Medio Cudeyo, is a municipality south of the bay of Santander. It is only 15 minutes away from Santander, Cantabria’s capital, and is well-communicated.
Solares is the most important town in Medio Cudeyo, it is famous because of it’s thermal waters and it’s traditional spa tradition dating from the beginning of the 18th century . How to get there?
Because of its location, Medio Cudeyo is easily accessible. If you have a car, the A-8 motorway, is the main way to get there. Take the exits 197 or 200 to reach Solares. If you’re travelling by bus, the Alsa Company has several lines which depart from the main towns of Cantabria or Bilbao and stop in Solares bus station. You can also travel by train. The FEVE Company has a line with departures from Santander every hour with stops in San Salvador, Heras, Solares or Ceceñas. Santander also has an international airport and a port placed within 20 minutes of Solares . Don’t forget to visit
The Estate of the Marquess of Valdecilla is a site of natural beauty with buildings dating from the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century. The estate is surrounded by a splendid garden with several hundred-year-old botanic species. Worthy of note is a fountain made of granite and ceramics, sculpted by Mariano Benlliure in 1928.
The town of Solares has a long-standing thermal tradition. The Great Thermal Hotel of Solares has modern facilities and a wide rage of thermal treatments. The Peña Cabarga Massif natural park provides a setting for the whole bay of Santander. From its viewing point (568 metres high and one of the most interesting in the whole of Cantabria) you can observe magnificent views of Santander and its bay as well as most of the region of Cantabria. At this viewing point you can also visit the “Indiano” monument (dedicated to the people who returned from the Americas after making their fortune). The viewing point is accessible from Heras.
